Defining a Life Unfiltered

Multiple definitions of life exist. But what is life unfiltered? Steven, who says he’s “always unfiltered,” identifies an unfiltered life as connecting with one’s spirit in the moment. You might receive signs inviting you to connect, such as a hawk, a coin, or a feather. Steven urges listeners not to shrug off these signs, allowing them to feed the human spirit instead.

“Doing your best to live in the present…to always remember you don’t know what you don’t know…and trying to look at that perspective in a multi-sensory way” is ultimately how Steven defines living an unfiltered life.

What Aspects of Life Feed the Human Spirit?

“Life” consists of four different aspects, each of which needs nourishment:

  • Physical: Movement through exercise and eating flavorful yet healthy foods nourishes the body, priming it for unfiltered life experiences.

  • Mental: Taking care of your mental health helps you develop a healthy human connection with the people surrounding you.

  • Spiritual: Engaging with Mother Earth, Spirit, or your preferred deity keeps you connected to the whole surrounding you.

  • Emotional: Authentic conversations with loved ones and strangers help you grow and mature as you become more present in each lived moment.

One common thread that connects each of these aspects is consistent presence. Savoring and appreciating each moment pushes your growth.

How Losses Contribute to the Human Experience

Part of being present means readily engaging with sad or upsetting experiences. Steven explores how different types of loss can teach us about ourselves and help us find freedom. For example, friends and colleagues may not treat pet loss with the same sensitivity as the death of a relative.

The disappointments that accompany those experiences often lead to some raw conversations. However, as Steven points out, these genuine exchanges can still teach us about ourselves, handling future losses better, and finding freedom in our struggles.
