Discipline: Role of Discipline in Life and Success

When you hear the word "discipline," does it inspire you or evoke negative feelings? Our unique experiences shape how we think of this term. In this episode of Get a G.R.I.P. with Coach Elix, you'll learn just how powerful discipline can be and that it's all about shaping your mindset.

Listen along as Coach Elix and his guest, Steven F. Macek, discuss this concept and how, with dedication and consistency, you can reach your personal goals.

About Steven F. Macek

A frequent podcast co-host, Steven F. Macek, personally knows how important disciplining yourself can be in order to succeed in life. He works as both an attorney and a psychic medium. While both areas of work are extremely different, Steven credits each of them with how he's able to reach new disciplinary levels. His experience in both fields makes him well-versed in how setting goals and disciplining yourself can pay off.

You Have the Freedom To Choose Your Form of Discipline

Contrary to popular belief, discipline isn't universal and takes on many different forms. It's a learned skill that will look different among parents raising their children, coworkers coming together on a project, or an individual trying to achieve a goal. The choice is yours when deciding which disciplinary path works best for you.

Becoming Disciplined Starts by Looking Inward

Everyone can boost their discipline with a simple goal-setting exercise. Steven suggests taking any obstacles or insecurities you have and dissecting each one, then imagining how it feels to accomplish a certain goal. He draws on his own experience of finishing law school and studying for the bar exam to bring this point home.

He credits his own insecurities and fear of failure with motivating him to pass the exam, as well as how it would feel to get started in his law career. While Steven admits he doesn't ordinarily think of himself as a disciplined person, having this goal helped him make adjustments to his time management and commitment level in order to pass the exam the first time.

Can Too Much Discipline Damage Your Spirit and Success?

It's no secret that being disciplined can do wonders for your personal development, but is there ever a breaking point? According to Steven, it's possible for people to go overboard with their self-discipline to the point that it can actually damage their progress and bring them further away from their goal.

For example. say you want to achieve a healthier lifestyle and transform your body. You start to learn self-control with what you eat and how often you exercise. If you injure yourself during a workout, but your inner drive tells you to keep moving forward no matter what, you risk injuring yourself further by proceeding and setting yourself back.

This strategy helps people find their goals, inspirations, and visions and execute them with clear intentions through planning, purpose, and integrity. It works with science and psychology to make dreams a reality.

It is a roadmap that guides you through struggles and hardships, with the final destination being the life you want to lead or the changes you wish to make. The G.R.I.P. Method offers a plan to go from fear to freedom and helps you break away from where past attempts did not work.
